Simple, healthy and tasty are the words to describe this dish! It is not new to indians but it is definitely the healthier version! Make this one at home and serve with raita(yogurt salad) and rotis (indian flat bread). You will surely enjoy it!
Serves 2 persons
2 Bowls of chopped spring onions (separate green and white onion parts)
1/2 cup(around 75 gm) split bengal gram(chana dal)
7-8 curry leaves
1/2 tsp mustard seeds, 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp coriander powder, 1/2 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp garlic paste
A pinch of asafoetida, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
v1/2 tsp red chilly powder, 1 -2 green chillies(chopped)
11/2 tbsp roasted gram powder/ dalia/ putani powder(optional)
1 tbsp oil
- Soak bengal gram for 2-3 hrs. Pressure cook it uptil two whistles or cook it in vessel for 20 minutes.
- Wash and separate the green part and white onion part. Chop both and keep it separately.
- Heat oil in non-stick pan. Add mustard seeds and allow it splutter. Add cumin ,green chillies, curry leaves , asafoetida, garlic paste and pinch of salt(to cook onions). Now add white onion part of spring onions. Mix it. Allow it cook for 4-5 minutes.
- Now add turmeric powder, chilly powder, coriander powder and cumin powder. Mix well and put green part of spring onions. Add salt and lentils(chana dal). Mix well and cook for around 3-4 minutes. When spring onions go soft and are cooked well add roasted gram powder .Mix well. Put off the heat and serve hot!
