This is not junk food but it may not fit in your diet do’s! But I can bet ,you will love it!

‘Sweet potato and beet-root burger

Sweet potato and beetroot burger

Serves 2 burgers


For sweet potato and beetroot patty

2 small beet roots

2 medium sized sweet potatoes(boiled and mashed)

3 green chillies, 6-7 garlic cloves, 1/2 inch ginger

1/2 tsp coriander powder, 1/2 tsp cumin powder


11/2 tsp lime juice

7-8 mint leaves

2 tbsp bread crums

1 tbsp oil

For stir fried vegetables

1 green pepper(capsicum)

1 large toamto

1 large onion

11/2 tsp olive oil

salt ,pepper

Note: you can add lettuce, cabbage, peas, beans, carrots or any choice of vegetable. I used what was available in my kitchen.

For Burger

2 medium sized bun

2 tbsp grated cheese

1 tbsp tomato ketchup

2 tbsp date & tamarind chutney

For patty

  • Boil beetroot in salted water for 5 minutes. Allow it cool down and then grate it.
  • Prepare a paste of green chilly, ginger and garlic.
  • Mix grated beet root, sweet potato, green chilly paste , salt, lime juice and mint leaves. Prepare patties of size of bun. (It should not be smaller than the bun)

  • Heat the oil in non-stick pan. Roll the patty in bread crums on both sides. Dab the bread crums on both sides properly. Put the patty slowly in the pan. Cook for 5 minutes on each side. Keep the patty aside.

For stir fried vegetables

  • Cut green peppers, tomato and onions in long strips. Heat oil in pan. Put peppers and onions and stir fry it on high flame for 2 minutes and then put tomato. Cook for 1 more minute.
  • Sprinkle salt and pepper on it. Put them into the burger.

For burger

  • Cut bun in two equal halves.

  • On one slice spread a tsp of date and tamarind chutney. Put grated cheese on it. (you can use cheese slice also). Now put patty/cutlet on it. Put stir-fried vegetables on patty/cutlet.

  • On another slice , spread tomato ketchup. Put it on stir fried vegetables and cover it to make it a burger. Gently press at top. Serve it.
